Plumbing fixtures are far more efficient than they used to be, doing the same job with a lot less water. Water-saving fixtures are now required in many areas by building and plumbing codes.
Taking shorter showers is one way to cut down on excess water use. But if you prefer a longer shower (especially on those cold days!!) you should consider installing a low-flow showerhead. Older showerheads will use 5 to 8 gpm, but a low-flow head will bring that down to 2.5 gallons or less with the same amount of water pressure and pleasant shower experience.
Some people don’t like low-flow showerheads based on past experience, but new technologies combine air and water for luxuriant “low-flow” showers.
